Buhari Woos IBB, Atiku
By Tony Orilade, Abuja
Newly elected candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) for the 2007 presidential elections, Gen. Muhammed Buhari (retd.), has appealed to Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) to give him their support for the 2007 elections. Buhari said it would amount to waste of votes if the three of them should contest the elections. The ANPP candidate who spoke with P.M.News shortly after he was declared the party’s presidential candidate, said what is needed at this period is concerted effort to wrest power from the evil government known as the PDP. “I appeal to my brother Atiku, Abubakar to work with me and ensure victory, moreso, as ANPP and AC have agreed to work together,” he said. He said this is the only way victory can be guaranteed.
Speaking on IBB, Gen. Buhari disclosed that IBB has nothing to lose if he supports him. “This is politics, there is no permanent friend or permanent enemy but permanent interest and the interest now is to fight the evil government (PDP) out of Nigerian politics. And if we fail now, Nigeria is doomed. We cannot afford to fail,” he stated. He also warned INEC that the only way to guarantee peace in 2007 is to conduct a free and fair election, adding that a repeat of what happened in 2003 will only lead to chaos. He thanked his colleagues in ANPP for the confidence reposed in him by making him their consensus candidate. “I will not fail Nigeria,” he added.
